AI-Assisted API Documentation Workflow for a Fintech Platform
Challenge
A fintech platform serving banks and financial institutions had a documentation problem that was costing them on two fronts.
Externally, customers complained that the public-facing API documentation was inconsistent, hard to navigate, and full of errors: wrong field names, missing diagrams, grammar issues. Internally, engineers had no reliable system for keeping documentation current as the product evolved.
What we built
We audited the knowledge base and built AI-assisted documentation workflows integrated into the team’s existing AI agents. Pages are validated against OpenAPI specs, API schemas, an internal style guide, and an approved terminology list, so field names, structure, and language are checked against source-of-truth references.
The workflows flag errors, apply fixes, suggest missing diagrams based on architecture notes and integration flows, and generate new page drafts from approved templates. Every output goes through human review before publication.
Result
Drafts for new documentation pages can be generated in under 5 minutes, while existing pages can be fixed in under 1 minute. Terminology, naming, diagram coverage, grammar, and language quality are now more consistent across the API documentation.
